Horsa 45,242,85 – Today, I decided to go to an educational place by searching for “scripting” and I ended up at the College of Scripting, Music, and Science. Very much worth a visit for all. Many step-by-step tutorials for newbies as well as building exercizes (with build/autoreturn allowed). The other floors are a fairly complete glossary and example set for the lsl scripting language. A very nice place indeed!

Well, as reported here, their are various in-world difficulties…
Residents are currently experiencing a range of in-world problems at present. These include difficulties in teleporting, L$ balances not loading, inability to log in, group failures, map not loading.
We apologise for the effect this is having on your experience of using Second Life today. Our technical colleagues are working to resolve these difficulties and we will keep you updated here on the blog on the status of this.
Thank you for your patience in the meantime.
No duh! So, I guess we have to wait as usual for LL to come back from [insert whatever their tech support does when they should be working] and, of course, comments are closed.
Editor’s Note: Appreciate the category name

Newbie First Stops
December 10, 2007 · Leave a Comment
Eventhough I am not a newbie (new AV in the Second Life), I figure it is always a good thing to leave a trail of bread crumbs for those who follow after me. So, today, some of the good spots I found over the years, ones with free (L$0 or L$1) items that are not what I would consider inventory fillers, gotten and never used. Doing this, too, since teleportation seems to be busted (again).
The Free Dove – even AVs that have been in world for months (or years) stop by the Dove to see what’s new and free. Palomma and Wilco provide a virtual treasure of free clothes and everything you need to get started in the SL, all for the taking. Pay special attention to newbie vouchers that are tucked away in some of the boxes. Some merchants give out freebies at their stores and upon request.
GNUbie Store – those who use open source software recognize the first three letters. This store has only free or L$1 items of a wide variety. Not just clothes, but scripts, buildings, attachments, a nice cross-section of stuff for use in the SL. It does have a few items that most will never use (like the megaprim skyscraper) – just pass those by, unless you are a newbie sim owner.
The Ivory Tower Library of Prim – not only for you budding builders, but everyone should take the step-by-step tutorial of how prims are shaped, molded, and turned into the wondrous objects found around the SL.
The Particle Laboratory – where you will learn how the sparkly, explosive, and colorful effects called particles are made.
So, these spots will keep you busy for a few hours (and a few thousand additions to your inventory). Now, back to the SL to see if I have a snowballs chance in hell of getting anywhere.

Sunday Scripting

This Second 196,42,26 – Taking some time to do some scripting. I have a very nice “flip title” that some have admired. I am going to package and document it so I can give it away. Not so much coding that it warrants a charge. A little giving back to the community
Perchance if you see me in the SL, please do feel free to ask for a copy!

This Second

This Second 189,71,26 – A sandbox I needed, a sandbox I found! Small, fairly uninhabited, and a short (4-hour) return. That tends to make it much cleaner in the long run. Methinks I will make a few friends here and work on my script.
This Second 62,76,27 – Seems to be owned by This Second Marketing LLC. Very nice 5 story building, but sadly empty… called Swirl Cafe.
This Second 40,114,26 – Aha! An auditorium, again of very nice design, which is tied to careerbuilder.com (note to check out their web site). Several camping areas as well for traffic building.
This Second 43,145,27 – A promo building for Colgate Toothpaste – shame it is not open yet with No Entry bars showing. I did mouse-sneak in and get their freebies though
It is a smile HUD and some info cards.
This Second 123,170,26 – “Swirl” mystery solved! Relates to their corporate sponsor: Nestle’s Coffee-mate. Also found their company web site, www.thissecondmarketing.com. And the other building must be for later rentals – I found the real Swirl Cafe, just ahead.
This Second 140,211,26 – Swirl Cafe is cute! Staffed, too with a very pleasant greeter. TY to Charisma Mornington for the nice greeting.
This Second 182,172,26 – Even have an Annex – they are expecting crowds.
This Second 82,214,23 – Very nice beach club, too! Aqua Hotel and Beach Resort. Making a note to visit again! Met a nice Av too. There are loads of nice folk in SL… thank you, Monalisa Robbiani.

Now using the Andreas04 theme (TY, Andreas!), I feel a bit more comfy with the way it looks and feels. So I am off adventuring! First goal of the day is to find a nice, quiet sandbox to work in for I have some scripting to do!

Got to Spruce Up the Format…

SL is dragging its feet tonight so I think I will tinker here a bit as well as finish up my auto-poster script. I am using SLurlBlogger at the moment, but I want something that is a bit more sophisticated. I also am writing an off-world script to populate my movements in a database!

Caledon 187,187,23 – It is like stepping into the 19th Century, complete with a trolley that will give you a tour of the sim. So put on your best bib and tucker and TP into another world. From their land covenant (a bit long, but an interesting read nonetheless…
Welcome to the Independent State of Caledon!
Visitor’s introduction:
Caledon is a 19th century Steampunk Victorian nation-state!
A small, windswept isle at a temperate latitude with wild creatures, country estate life, and sights and sounds that were common well over 100 years ago.

Starting the Journey

Caledon 190,190,23 – I thought that the best place to first post my location would be in the sim home of the author of SLurlBlogger, the fine attachment that I am using.
Caledon 190,190,23 – So let’s see how this looks!
